Hello!

Thank you for visiting my webpage. I am delighted to share my story with you while simultaneously showcasing my skills, knowledge, and a litany of odd experiences that make me who I am. My intent is to offer unique insights based on my school and work experience, to enlighten anyone who graces my presence.

My Story

Welcome, my name is Marquis Byrd hailing from Baltimore, MD. I am a proud father of one child who has recently turned 7 years old. I attended Western School of Technology and Environmental Science in Catonsville, MD, graduating in 2008. I first began matriculation at Morgan State University in 2008 as an electrical engineering major. I decided that electrical engineering wasn’t a motivator for me, so I switched my major to Transportation Systems Engineering in 2012 before I left to join the military for personal reasons. During my time in the military, I have been able to continue my studies, I secured an A.S. in aviation and electrical systems. I am set to receive a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Global Perspectives and Practices. I am currently an employee at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Airway Transportation Systems Specialist. I am aspiring to advance very far in my career, and currently on track to become a district manager for technical operations. However, I am open to pivoting from technical operations to take on more administrative type roles.

In the military I aim to become a commissioned officer for the USAFRC. I want to forge strong connections over the years that may lead me to hold superior seats amongst the elites of the country. My professional experience involves years of military service and civilian sector work. I worked as an avionics technician for the Air Force Reserve Command from 2019-2023. During that tenure I maintained aircraft systems, including GPS and communications, leading approximately 30 airmen to a 99% effective rating including a 100% repair rate in red ball maintenance. I am also the Communications Security Responsible Officer, whose duties include resolving classified security issues for encrypted data for flight. My favorite part of working for the military has been travelling the world for temporary duties. I have been to a plethora of countries throughout my tenure.

From 2023-present I have worked for the FAA as a systems specialist. My experience here is pending so I do not have much to offer but I do enjoy travelling to Oklahoma for training. I have had the opportunity to meet many interesting people such as pilots and air traffic controllers.

Thus far I am most proud of joining my fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated. My fraternity has allowed me to travel the country and rub shoulders with the future leaders of our society. I have been a part of quite a few community service initiatives and proud to say my mentees have done very well for themselves which is the most rewarding thing to see for me.
